The existing ethnics are the Mestiço (mixed European and native African), Angolares (descendants of Angolan slaves), Forros (descendants of freed slaves), Serviçais (contract laborers from Angola, Mozambique, and Cape Verde), Tongas (children of servicais born on the islands), European (primarily Portuguese), etc.
